NEWS

30 April 2007 - Wow, this is almost the end. Everything with HELLRAISER: PROPHECY is just about wrapped up. After about 2 years of work, the end is pretty much here. So, unless there's any groundbreaking news about HRP in the future, this is probably going to be the last news entry.

So, in the end, we had screenings in 15 states and England. We've had over 13,000 views of HRP on YouTube since it was posted there six months ago.

The pre-ordered DVDs were sent out on Saturday; the closest one is headed to Staten Island, NY, and the farthest one is headed to Ireland, so that was pretty exciting.

The DVD files were placed online this morning on eMule and Azureus/Vuze. (More info: click on the DVD menu link.) It's been about eight hours since the DVD finished uploading to Vuze, and I've just started spreading the word around, but we've already got 37 people queued up to download the DVD, and the number is going up every hour! It's exciting to know that people who watched the movie on YouTube actually like it enough to want to download the whole damn DVD...

(Either that, or they want to bootleg it. :D )

I actually read a posting on a horror movie forum, where someone posted, "But for what it's worth the film was entertaining enough for me to buy it at a horror convention I recently went to" which was interesting because it was posted several weeks ago, before the DVDs went out... I always said that I'd know that I'd made it when I saw my film being bootlegged at a con. Unfortunately, i haven't seen it yet at the ones that I normally go to, so we'll see... It's a dubious honor, but hey, what can you do?

All that's left to do is to send out the cast and crew DVDs, which should be done either this weekend or, more likely, next weekend... and then that's really it.

So, a few final thoughts.

1) Again, I can't thank enough the cast and crew for volunteering their time to try their hand at something new to us all and for helping me realize this project. Also, innumerable thanks to the Hellraiser professionals who graciously agreed to be interviewed for DEMONS TO OTHERS, especially to Pete Atkins for his advice and encouragement, and Gary Tunnicliffe for inspiring and indulging a fan's dream. From the bottom of heart, my thanks to you all.

2) To all the people who've enthusiastically supported the film, as well as those who have pointedly supplied constructive criticism, my many thanks to you. I hope that you've enjoyed what this film has to offer. As this is still an active hobby, I do indeed hope to put the advice and recommendations to good use in the near future.

3) To those people took issue with HRP and continue to occasionally snipe derogatory comments on YouTube, I encourage you to use this film as a platform to go forth and to make better films than we've done. I invite you to channel your negativity into a constructive effort to make a film; then we all benefit. Nothing would make me happier than to know that our little film inspired (or, in this case, disgusted) other fans to make bigger and better Hellraiser fan films.

So, the follow-up to HRP, a prequel, tentatively entitled, HELLRAISER: DEADER - THE DEAD OF WINTER is scripted and is next to come, along with Peter Atkins' SONGS OF METAL AND FLESH, adapted by Jose Leitao. (The HELLRAISER: WARM RED project has been abandoned.) Production on both fan films is slated to begin in Summer, 2008. Keep an eye out at http://www.kuifilms.com/ for more news.

And once again, thanks for watching and making this project a truly extraordinary experience for me.

27 March 2007 - Looks like a lot can happen in 3 weeks. The DVDs are all but ready to ship out. Those who looking to order the DVD can go to http://www.kuifilms.com/dvd/ for more information on the various ways to get it.

Also, we're now on IMDB at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0985602.

The film itself has been split into four parts and posted on YouTube. So, it's available for viewing now...

05 March 2007 - I've returned from Horrorfind Weekend 7 in Baltimore this weekend, where DEMONS TO OTHERS premiered. DTO was played at 5:30PM on Saturday, immediately after a screening of HELLRAISER: PROPHECY. With about 40 people in the audience, both films were well-received. This was, by the way, my first time attending a screening of HRP at a horror convention, which made it particularly memorable. Many thanks to the attendees and staff of Horrorfind Weekend! Now, on to I-Con XXVI...

27 February 2007 - Alright, as I mentioned previously, the film is complete. I've gotten word that it will be premiered at the Horrorfind Weekend 7 HELLRAISER REUNION, in Baltimore, MD this weekend. I'm still awaiting web confirmation of this on either their website or their messageboards, but we'll see what happens. I'll be there, in either case. I think the theory is that I should be doing a Q&A after screenings of both HRP and DTO... In either case, DEMONS TO OTHERS will also be screening at I-CON XXVI the weekend of March 23rd.

29 January 2007 - The film is complete and scored, clocking in at 32 minutes. Music used includes a lot of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, Holst's Mars from his Planets suite, as well as a few others.

We may have a premiere screening at this year's I-Con convention at the end of March... I'm trying to get another screening a little bit earlier in March as well, but that's up in the air...

So, if I can get a premiere screening in March, I'll aim to have the DVD released by the end of April, or early May...

04 January 2007 - After a one-month hiatus, editing has recommenced...

Intro: Assembled, minus music
Part 1: Assembled, minus music
Part 2: Assembled, minus music
Part 3: Still needs a few transitional inserts, probably by next Wednesday
End credits: Plates assembled, awaiting transitions. probably by tomorrow afternoon.

21 November 2006 - Editing is going well... I'm hoping to have a rough cut of the film by the end of the month. There's a pretty good chance I'll make that deadline, too! Darren Burgess has tentatively agreed to come on as Music Supervisor. We're going to try and find some fair use music as a score.

Intro: Not yet
Titles: Not yet
Part 1: Cut together, needs audio filtering and music (~8 minutes)
Part 2: Cut together, needs audio filtering and music (~14 minutes)
Part 3: Pending
End credits: Not yet

30 October 2006 - Alright, so with the launch of HELLRAISER: PROPHECY (2006) on YouTube, I've decided to start the News section here for DEMONS TO OTHERS. DTO is still in post-production, which has been sorely neglected while I've been putting together the DVD version of HRP and its YouTube premiere, but now it's back in semi-full-swing. The good news is that a trailer is now available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWZooqLjBSg, so you can get an idea of what to expect in the documentary itself. My biggest concern right now is what to do about music... I'd prefer not to have to "borrow" music without permission for DTO, so we'll see how that shapes up.

The film itself will likely be divided into three parts (acts).
Part 1: Pre-production
Part 2: Production
Part 3: Post-Production

I'm aiming to make each part no more than 10 minutes long, so we'll see how it goes... Right now, Part 1 has been rough cut and I've put most of the inserts in, but the audio needs to be filtered.

Part 2 is in progress, but the rough cut isn't done. Part 3 isn't even a glimmer in my eye yet. The good news is that I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro rather than Windows Movie Maker 2, so that's been making the progress much, much faster and much, much easier to attain.

Right now, I'm aiming submit DTO to the convention circuit in early 2007. I'll likely aim for fewer conventions/festivals than I did for HRP, simply because there's less of a market, but I'm hoping for two or three likely possibilities.

Alright, back to work for me.
